about MILLPORT
and The Isle of Cumbrae
MILLPORT is the only town on the Isle of Cumbrae, which is a 10 minute ferry journey from LARGS – in the Firth of Clyde.
The island itself is only 10.25 miles around, offers breathtaking scenery from quiet roads and the easily accessible shoreline, and is a perfect setting for a family holiday. There are clean sandy beaches, and rocky outcrops with lots of pools to explore. Seabirds abound, as do seals, and other wildlife thrives in the unspoiled island haven. It boasts the smallest Cathedral in the British Isles, and the new Museum is now open in the magnificent re-built Garrison Building. It also has a hospital.
Cycling is a favourite pastime, and 1 Guildford Street is right next to Mapes Cycle Hire Shop (01475 530444).
There are spectacular views from the 9 hole Golf Course, to which visitors are very welcome, as it is situated at the top of the island. (01475 530305 - Starter 530306 - Secretary)
The Bowling Club also welcomes visitors. (07960 228 695)
